I use my FreeBSD system as an actual computer and not as an expensive and needlessly power hungry front end to a terminal emulator so my install has 219GB of data on freebsd-zfs.
I think how you use computers and how the vast, overwhelming, majority of users use their machines may be a little different.
Do not confuse 'system' and 'data' sizes.
For this 16GB I was thinking the space only for FreeBSD base system and pkg(8) packages. Nothing more.
