Back when I was still there in 1997, I didn't expect the PRC to break the treaty-promises quite so quickly and blatantly. (Many factors have changed since then.)
The truly sad/crazy part is that most people today still don't expect China to break promises quite so quickly and blatantly.
Oh well.
I don't know, most people in Hong Kong, don't expect China to hold any promises nowadays... Outside of people who live in mainland China, I don't think nowadays many people trust China with promises.
Which promises do you mean? And which people?
