Bit of a prisoners dilemna dynamic going on here

    > The lawyer launched a national appeal Thursday asking the perpetrators to contact his office to make a deal.

    > “You risk nothing ... we will share with you,” he said. “And you would be able to change your lives.”

    > The ticket will eventually expire, he warned.

    > “Time is working against us,” he said.

Potentially high reward for co-operating and making a deal, or they could just end up in prison and gain nothing if the victim decides to screw them over

From TFA "Prosecutors may try to seize the winnings, considering them illegally obtained gains".

It seems the victim has a strong incentive to keep the prosecutor out of the way themselves.... but they have already filed a police complaint (which seems like a really easy one to solve).

shouldn't the victim get all the winnings?

I'm hoping because basically this is my plan for winning the lottery, I'd hate to think I'd wasted all my hopes on a delusion.

Agree, otherwise it sends the wrong message to kids etc.

You also don't want others to negotiate with terrorists, but you'll negotiate if it's your own loved ones or property on the line.

This guy wants his wallet back and is willing to give half of his winnings away to get it. His other option is he gets nothing and still doesn't have his wallet.
