basically that we haven't seen the GDP figures shoot up yet.
He also points out he's not an economist. GDP is not a good very good guide as to whether something has value or not.
The article title is a little misleading. He says he wants to see proof that AI is generating actual value by seeing actual economic growth as a result. He doesn’t like the hype, which is based on arbitrary goals that have no tie to actual value. Hence there is not really a disconnect between his statement and his actions as portrayed here.
He now says he wants to see proof --- but he has committed $80 billion without it. Looks like a disconnect of some sort to me. He can't have it both ways.
The $80 billion he committed did nothing but fuel the hype.
